Hey Angie! I was wondering what the purpose of heat is in yoga like Hot Vinyasa yoga? I thought it was because of sweating out toxins, but apparently sweating doesn't actually do that.

from what I know, the heat in a heated class can help you go deeper into a stretch or a pose without injuring yourself because it helps warms up your body more quickly.

My yoga instructor puts it really nicely too - the heat in a hot class helps to deepen your practice not just physically, but mentally as well. The heat and the sweat dripping down your face provides an added challenge and distraction that you have to overcome in your practice. And some people enjoy that sort of challenge :>

I personally like heated classes because it really helps with my flexibility and I find that I can go much deeper into stretches :>

Also, for the anon w the balance thing: they might also want to start strengthening their core, for this will help them with balance. Balance is nothing else but core strength, so working on their abs will help them with balance a lot.

Thank you for your tip!! :>

Thank you for clearing that up. I'm glad you were kind about it, because I honestly wasn't sure if it was a joke or not. :)

<: you’re welcome! i’m glad we cleared that up! have a great weekend ahead! <3

That Savasana reply was a joke, right?

from recovere

no, it is not.

savasana is said to be one of the most difficult yoga asanas because you literally have to lie there and do nothing. we are so used to being stimulated, and even over stimulated, because of the fast paced lives that most of us lead, and habits that we have (such as watching TV, using our gadgets, etc). because of that, sometimes it is difficult for us to really sit down, and just be present. being present means not to worry about the future, and not be bogged down by the past. to let your thoughts come and go like a flowing river.

to me, it is easy to say what i should be doing in a savasana, but when it comes down to actually doing it, it is difficult. it is difficult to just lie down on your mat, and just be.

savasana is the most difficult asana for me because i fully experience the fact that we feel different on our yoga mats every day. on some days i can fully focus on my breathing and on other days i fidget and my mind keeps wandering to what is going to happen or what has happened. sometimes savasanas feel painfully long, but sometimes i get lost in that space and being in the present that i forget to come out of it.

i could’ve answered that question with any other fancy asana, but as i’ve mentioned in a post before, yoga is not just about nailing a fancy-looking asana. to me, my yoga is about bringing that learning and attitude off the yoga mat and improve the way i live, and the way i love and live with other people.

and if you’ve followed me long enough, you would know that i would never be sarcastic or dismissive to anyone’s asks. <:

Do you know any good yoga books it books about positivity and spirituality?

hello! i can’t think of any great reads off the top of my mind, but i know lazyyogi has been recommending quite a few great reads on his page, so you might want to check that out <:

hi angie! i have a couple questions for you, if that's okay. first, are any of the poses in the 26 pose bikram set bad to do on your moon cycle? and second, can you recommend an inexpensive place that sell tops cool enough for bikram but don't show my belly? i'm a little self conscious, and all my usual tops are killing me in the heated room! thank you!,! 💜

hello! for your first question, i don’t know any poses that might be bad for you in the bikram series during your moon cycle. i just know that normally when you’re having your moon cycle, it’s generally advisable for you to avoid inversions (handstands, forearm stands, headstands etc). <: in terms of affordable yoga clothing, check out this post! i think it’ll be really useful for you <:

I've been working on my. Balance for the past month and I haven't seen much improvement. Would you happen to know any good videos that will help me?

from Anonymous

hello! you might want to check out tara stiles’ youtube videos on balance - she has quite a few great videos on that!

What would you say has been the most difficult yoga pose you've encountered?

from sillylizards

i would say savasana is the most difficult yoga pose <:
